I Heard You Mention Antioxidants, But What Are They?

Updated: Feb 15, 2022

We know that tea tastes amazing, but most consume it due to its potential health benefits and the high concentration of antioxidants. Which brings us to the question, what are antioxidants? Webster defines it as "a substance (such as beta-carotene or vitamin C) that inhibits oxidants or reactions promoted by oxygen, peroxides, or free radicals." Simpler definition, a substance that protects cells from the damage caused by free radicals.

Free radicals naturally occur in our bodies but due to environmental pollutants, the number of free radicals has increased. Anything at high levels can be dangerous to our bodies, and in the case of free radicals, it can result in abnormal growth cells and more serious health conditions. Sounds bad right? What can help this situation? Antioxidants!

Green and black tea have high levels of antioxidants but the true of antioxidants is hibiscus tea! When brewed, hibiscus has 400% more antioxidants than green and black tea. WOOT WOOT HIBISCUS! Now that we know about antioxidants, let's add it to our routine! If it's with high antioxidant foods such as broccoli, spinach, and artichokes or tea, let's be more aware of what we're intaking! Because it's the simple things!
